There is no pinpoint date as to when modeling was invented or started. People have been posing as models for artists since the times of the Renaissance and even earlier. In terms of fashion modeling, Charles Frederick Worth who is known as the "Father of Haute Couture", began using his wife as a clothing model back in the late 1800s.

Modeling has always been around since as far back as the 1850s with the first deemed "fashion model," who was a Parisian shop girl named Marie Vernet Worth, who acted as a mannequin used for trying on new clothes.

As supermodels became known to the public in the 1960s and especially during the 1980s and 1990s, more people became fans of the models themselves and not necessarily the actual profession.

The obsession/popularity with modeling as a career became widespread after the creation of America's Next Top Model. While young women and men have always sought to become the next "It" model, reality television shows and more Behind the Scenes type of footage started to influence and fuel more young people's desires to become a model.
