Locking pliers
There are three main types of bathtub faucet handles: knob handles, lever handles, and cross handles. Knob handles are round and twist to turn the water on and off. Lever handles are long and move up and down to control the water flow. Cross handles have a cross-shaped design and also twist to control the water.
You fit the stainless steel wire through the bolt or nut, then clamp the wires in the plier and pull back on the knob. The wires will twist and you then wrap them around an anchoring point and re-secure them,- your nut is now locked.

Set it to the open-code (0000 default). Pull out the lock. Turn the knob that says set in the direction indicated until it stops (you may pliers if its been awhile). Set the code you want. Turn the knob back into place.

There is a c type clamp on the inside of the hand control where it meets the door. You will have to push in on the doors panel to see it, its usually copper colored. It comes out in one direction, you will need to get a flat head screwdriver and push one of the ends of the clamp (pin as its really like a "c"wire) and id should pop out and you can pull the knob off. Put the pin on the knob (but not all the way into the slot) before installing the knob. then after you slide the knob on use a screwdriver to pust the "c" pin back into place.
The factory shift know is simply pressed into place. To remove the knob, pull on it. If it's still on quite tight, you maybe need to firmly twist while pulling the shift knob. If all else fails, use a piece of leather to protect your know, and some channel lock pliers to work the knob back and forth until it is loose enough and can be removed.
