I have used the Nestor's Vacuum Bottle 1 quart size, for several years. The stopper broke, and in my quest to find a replacement stopper (none available from Nestor's dealers), I found a replacement vacuum bottle available at Campro.com, which as described, sounds very much like the Nestor's Vacuum Bottle, which is the Nissan 25 oz Silver Bullet Stainless Steel Vacuum Bottle.

Campmore, it seems, is the only retailer to offer the heat retention specs for this vacuum bottle*

If true, then it appears the manufacturer of this private label bottle might be Thermos* (tm) Nissen

Thermos Insulation Capability*

  • Start temperature - 203 degrees F (95 degrees C)
  • After 6 hours - 167 degrees F (75 degrees C)
  • After 24 hours - 125.6 degrees F (52 degrees C)
  • *For hot water in a room with a temperature of approximately 68 degrees F (20 degrees C).

This represents as similar experience that I have had with the Nestor's Vacuum Bottle, except for the broken cap (cup is fine).

What types of heat transfer will the vacuum layer between the two bottles reduce why?

The vacuum layer between two bottles will reduce heat transfer by conduction and convection. These methods of heat transfer require a medium for the transfer to occur, which is absent in a vacuum. Radiation, however, can still occur through the vacuum layer, but at a much slower rate compared to conduction and convection.

What does the vacuum pump do in an engine?

You must have a diesel. The vacuum pump is what gives you POWER BRAKES and on the newer engines it also makes the power steering work. Only a gas engine makes vacuum. A diesel engine does not make vacuum, so they install a vacuum pump.
