It is not a good idea to use cardboard to store things in because cardboard attracts moisture if the area is damp, even a basement floor that appears dry could be slightly damp resulting in moisture collecting under the cardboard and give mold.

It depends where you lay the cardboard. If you lay it on carpet it won't bounce well. If you lay it on concrete it will bounce good.
