with a little device they call a Manometer. It measures the vacuum on each carburetor. through the access port on the intake boot.

On a 1982 Suzuki GS650 equipped with Mikuni carburetors, the gas line connects to the fuel inlet on the carburetor, typically located on the side or bottom. The vacuum hose connects to the vacuum port, which is used for the petcock operation, ensuring fuel flows when the engine is running. Additionally, there may be a hose for overflow or drain purposes, usually found at the bottom of the carburetor. Always refer to a service manual for specific routing and connections.
looking at the bike head on (in front of it), its on the left side. You'll have the remove the plastic cover (should be painted the bike's color and say GS650 on it. It just prys right off. The air box is a black box with a circle indention and a raised cross on the front. (Sorry for the crappy description). There are two metal sliders on top and on bottom. Slide these off and the front door will come off. Your filter should be lying inside. Hope this helps -Long live the Suzuki GS!
At least one spark plug manufacturer (NGK) recommends a gap of .028" for a 1983 Suzuki GS550 (this is for the D9EA spark plug). Interesting to note, a 1982 Suzuki GS550 uses a different plug (B8ES), and the gap for that one is .032". So if you have a 1983 model, that gap should be .028".
