Yes, you can as the 6 speed kit fits the gearbox. However, you should look closely into this issue since not everybody has been equally happy with the results.
I will say it is a non interference engine in the z tech. My research and conversations with ford mechanics say that the z tech Mazda ford engine is the same in the contour/mystique ford escort zx2 and some Mazda labelled vehicles. If info and research says the escort or the countour is non interference then I would believe the same with the Focus.
