To check a Harley Davidson speed sensor, first, locate the sensor, typically found on the transmission or wheel hub. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the sensor terminals; refer to the service manual for the specific resistance values. If the readings are outside the specified range, the sensor may be faulty and should be replaced. Additionally, inspect the wiring and connections for any damage or corrosion.

To change the speed sensor on a 2003 Harley Davidson Fat Boy, first, disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Locate the speed sensor on the transmission, typically near the primary cover, and remove the retaining bolt using a socket. Carefully pull out the old sensor, and install the new one by reversing the process, making sure to secure it with the bolt. Reconnect the battery and check for proper operation.
On a 1999 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, the speed sensor is typically located on the transmission. Specifically, it is mounted on the left side of the transmission case, near the output shaft. The sensor is responsible for detecting the rotational speed and sending this information to the speedometer. To access it, you may need to remove the left side cover or other components depending on your specific setup.
On a 2013 Harley Davidson Tri Glide, the speed sensor is typically located on the transmission. Specifically, it can be found on the right side of the transmission housing, near the output shaft. The sensor is responsible for sending speed data to the instrument cluster and the engine control module. If you need to access or replace it, make sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for safety and proper procedure.
To clean the speed sensor on a 1996 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail, first, disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Locate the speed sensor on the transmission, remove the sensor from its housing, and gently clean it with a soft cloth and some electrical contact cleaner to remove dirt and debris. Avoid using abrasive materials that could damage the sensor. Once clean, reassemble the sensor, reconnect the battery, and test to ensure proper functionality.

The vehicle speed sensor is powered and monitored by theECM. The ECM processes the vehicle speed signal andtransmits this signal to the TSMrrSSM/HFSM and speedometerthrough serial data. The vehicle speed sensor is located on the transmission justbehind the transmission top cover.
speed sensor is located to the rear of the transmission chrome (retangular) cover. there are four bolts on the cover, if you are looking at the bike from the right side just behind the cover rear bolt is the speed sensor. loosen and remove Allen bolt with 3/16 Allen and rotate sensor just enough to pry out. it is in there snug. i just removed and cleaned my sensor. there were metal shaving.
