Start with a can of Seafoam in the gas tank. This is an additive that worked just great on a 2003 Nighthawk I just bought--and hadn't been ridden in a year or more. At first the engine ran unevenly, even when well warmed up. After the Seafoam treatment, she's purring like a cat in a dairy.
