most likely cause is a leak in the exhaust system it lets in air causing the residual fuel in the exhaust system to explode that usually happens when the throttle is shut off

advance the timing a little.
To fix a head gasket on a 1987 Suzuki Quad Sport, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Remove the necessary components to access the head, including the intake and exhaust manifolds. Then, carefully remove the cylinder head, clean the mating surfaces, and replace the old gasket with a new one. Reassemble the engine in reverse order, ensuring all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications before reconnecting the battery and testing the engine.
I had the same problem and i fixed it by checking the fuse ...and it was blow. toke me 3 hours to figure that out lol
replace spark plugs and wires
Your timing is off in most cases, or your carburetor needs adjusting.
To fix backfiring issues on a Bombardier DS 650, first check the spark plugs for wear or fouling and replace them if necessary. Next, inspect the carburetor for proper adjustment and ensure the fuel mixture is correct; a lean mixture can cause backfiring. Additionally, examine the exhaust system for leaks or blockages, as these can also contribute to backfiring. Lastly, ensure that the ignition timing is set correctly; if not, adjust it according to the manufacturer's specifications.
the quad driver module is a component of the ECM. you must replace ECM.

Make it faster
Adjusting the carburetor can potentially fix backfiring on an ATV, as backfiring is often caused by an improper air-fuel mixture. If the mixture is too lean or too rich, it can lead to incomplete combustion, resulting in backfires. However, other factors like ignition timing, exhaust leaks, or worn components may also contribute to the issue, so a thorough inspection is recommended. If adjusting the carburetor doesn't resolve the problem, further diagnostics may be necessary.
