To obtain a title for an old ATV purchased with a bill of sale, first check your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or equivalent agency for specific requirements. Typically, you'll need to submit the bill of sale, any prior registration documents if available, and possibly a form for applying for a title. Some states may require a vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection. Pay any applicable fees, and allow time for processing.

ATV's aren't issued with "titles" that I'm aware of, a bill of sale should be sufficient. Is it a dealer that you are trading with or an individual?
To obtain an ATV title in Florida, you must provide proof of ownership, which can include a bill of sale or prior title. In order to register an ATV in New Jersey you will need a certificate of origin. Also for tax purposes a notarized bill of sale from the person you bought it from if you got it second hand.. Beware of ATV's without titles or ones that have info under lien holder on the back of the Certificate or Origin. You can get a tittle for an ATV without papers but it is a long process and costs aprox.. $200 - $250 . There are conditions in which you cant get the title and that's if the ATV comes back with a lien on it .. then forget it.. If the original buyer stiffed the bank then you cant get a lien release letter and then you cant register it or get a title.. That's why ATV's without papers are much cheaper. you are rolling the dice.. good luck
If bought from a dealer, yes. If bought from an individual and your state does not require a title for an ATV then no.
It depends on your state, I know in KY you can't get a title for it but you don't need one anyway, just make sure you have a bill of sale from the seller to prove you bought the quad. It depends on your state, I know in KY you can't get a title for it but you don't need one anyway, just make sure you have a bill of sale from the seller to prove you bought the quad. Please post your state.. I live in New Jersey and you can get a tittle actually called a certificate of ownership in NJ - for an ATV that doesnt have papers provided it doesnt have a lien on it . Banks put liens on ATV when you borrow money to buy them . Once you finish paying it off they send you a lien release letter. It is an involved process to get a title and all said in done it can cost you $200 to $250. I am going through it now. I got a great deal on the bike so its worth it to me.. but i will never buy an ATV again without papers.. its just too risky (scarey) and it takes way to long to get a title 2 to 3 months in my state. Beware if the original owner screwed the bank and didnt pay them well your out of luck and will never get a title or be able to register the ATV not unless you settle the debt owned, that's if they are even willing to do that.. I have heard nightmarish stories of people buying an ATV no papers and finding out theres a lien on it and then having to go to court to sue the guy they bought it from for there money back.. I forgot one thing you may even get the bike repossed if the bank can find it or the authorities get there hands on it... although it is unlikely it can happen
No state is given in the question. In most states ATV's cannot be registered as "street legal" motor vehicles and therefore do not fall under the jurisdiction of the DMV as far as licensing them and "titles" are concerned. Check further with your state DMV and ascertain what the situation is in your particular state.
I'm selling my atv I'm the original owner and it's paid off. However I lost my title and need to optain one ASAP. Where do I start?

To obtain a title for an ATV that has never been registered in Nevada, you need to gather the necessary documentation, including proof of ownership (like a bill of sale), a completed application for title, and any applicable fees. Then, visit your local Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office or their website to submit your paperwork. You may also need to provide a VIN verification if the ATV was purchased out of state. It's advisable to check the DMV's specific requirements beforehand to ensure a smooth process.
In North Carolina, selling an ATV without a title can be challenging, as the title is the primary proof of ownership. However, if you don't have the title, you can still sell it by providing a bill of sale and any other documentation that proves ownership, such as registration papers. The buyer may need to go through a process to obtain a duplicate title, which typically involves contacting the North Carolina DMV. It's advisable to check with local regulations and ensure both parties are comfortable with the transaction.
