I just did mine. Take off battery cover - two bolts. Take out two screws, one on each side, located near top of battery case. There was another bolt, I do not recall where. No need to remove the ones from the bottom. With the bolts out, the case will swivel a little toward the front tire. Then slide out battery.

From the bottom. disconnect the termanals and then on each side is a screw at the bottom of the battery box. take those out and a trap door swings down and the battery comes out the bottom

the 1400 intruder didnt come out till 1987. nevertheless its at the back of the engine right near the battery box.
