To determine the year of cylinder heads on a Harley Shovelhead, look for casting numbers and date codes stamped on the heads. These numbers are typically located on the underside of the heads or near the intake ports. Additionally, the design and features of the heads can vary by year, so consulting a Harley-Davidson parts catalog or reference book can help identify the specific year based on these characteristics. Remember to cross-reference the information for accuracy.
THE ONLY WAY TO TELL IF THE CYLINDER HEADS ARE BAD IS BY REMOVING AND INSPECTING THEM.(NO ONE IS THAT GOOD AS TO BE ABLE TO TELL WITH OUT LOOKING) THE NORMAL PROBLEMS THAT YOU GET THAT ARE CYLINDER HEAD RELATED ARE NOT ALWAYS DUE TO A BAD CYLINDER HEAD.
This number will tell you what year and what moter the heads will fit. There are books put out for this purpose.
One can tell the difference between the oval, and rectanglular ;port heads, just by looking at the intake.
#1 is the cylinder closest to the front of the engine (where the belt is). On a V engine that is harder to tell unless you can see both heads at the same time.
It is difficult to tell a real Harley Davidson jacket from a fake. Your best bet is to go to a Harley Davidson store and have them examine it.
can anyone tell me what fluids to check after storing a harley for 3 months?
you probably have a bad gasket on one of the heads or a cracked head like in a water jacket next to a piston wall. check the compression on each cylinder and they should all be with in a 15 lbs range or closer that will at least tell you which cylinder is leaking
The easy way is to look for a casting number on the block and try googling it. The harder way is if there are no pistons or heads on it you can measure the width and depth of a cylinder and then multiply those numbers together to get the cylinder size, then multiply that by the total number of cylinders to get the overall cubic inches.
look at the side of the tires that are on it . There it will tell you the max. psi.
the fastest way to tell is if the center intake bolts are not there.the vortec heads that everyone wants for performance have no center intake bolts.See link below.
Real simple exhaust camshafts are the camshafts nearest the exhaust manifolds ( outside if cylinder heads) intake camshafts are on the inside closer to center of engine.
i will tell you later
