a 1000 uses a 20mm axel, a 650 uses a 17mm axel
The size of the rear tire for a 1978 KZ650 is "M 130/80 - 18".
the size of chain on the 1981 kz650 is a 530 or 630 chain. that is a pretty good chain in my opinion because it is very strong and it is pretty thick.

You can find the VIN on the stearing stem
62 hp @7000 rpm
It is located underneath the engine behind a round plate.
The owners manual for the KZ650 1977- 1983 reads as follows "- Spark plug Type .......... NGK B7ES, ND W22ES-U Gap ........... 0.028-0.031 in (0.7-0.8 mm)"
To set the points gap on a 1977 KZ650, first, remove the left side cover to access the points. Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap while rotating the engine to align the points at their widest opening. The gap should be set to approximately 0.014 inches (0.35 mm). Once adjusted, tighten the points screws and recheck the gap to ensure it remains correct.
Soften the rubber by immersing them in a bowl of hot water. You might also find them easier to fit if you apply a little grease to the mouths of the carbs.
First turn your gas switch off, then pull your fuel lines from ports connected to tank. then simple pour the gas into a desired container, and reconnect fuel lines.
The oil filter on the 650 is a cartridge type and it's underneath a cover next to the drain plug on the bottom of the engine. It looks like a round area with fins coming away from the bolt. It's got a spring and a cartridge underneath. it is sealed to the engine with a rubber o-ring.
