40/1 is the oil gas mixture for a Poulan 40cc and Craftsman 40cc
Try a less rich 50/1 and go thicker if needed, maybe 45/1.
You want to shoot for a nice light brown burn on the spark plug, and make sure the plug is clean to test, plus listen for how your saw reacts to the 50/1 and you'll love the power with no bog. If you don't want to reduce, then start with the 40/1 and then reduce the oil a little and watch the difference.

2 stroke oil mix which you mix with a certain amount of gas to get a certain ratio of oil to gas, or bar oil which you need to keep your chain lubed otherwise you create excessive wear on the bar, and chain, and run the risk of getting it stuck in a tree or lock up.
The oil it calls for is Poulan which is 40:1. A good quality name brand (Stihl, Echo, etc.) will work fine when used as directed.

Deere's oil is 50:1 ratio. Just mix to the ratio specified for the oil. Most come packaged with bottles made to mix with a gallon of gas nowadays.
