1. To remove gas tank place the bike on center stand.

2. Remove the seat and both side covers.

3. Turn the fuel shut- off valve off.

4. Remove the fuel line that goes to the fuel filter from the base of the shut-off valve.

5. Attach a piece of fuel to the fitting on the fuel shut-off valve and place the loose end in a clean gas can.

6. Turn the fuel shut-off valve back on.

7. Drain both the main and the secondary fuel tanks. If the fuel is kept clean it can be reused.

8. Open the fuel filer cap. This will speed up the flow of the fuel.

9. Put the fuel back on the shut-off valve after both tanks are emptied.

10. Remove the bolt on each side of the front of the main fuel tank.

11. Loosen the clamps on the fuel line and vent line and remove both lines from the secondary fuel tank.

12. Remove the bolt and washer securing the rear of the fuel tank. Don't lose the metal spacer in the rubber cushion.

13. A: On models equipped with the evaporative emission control system, perform the following

a. Lift up and pull the tank to the rear a short distance.

b. Lift up the front of the tank and disconnect the vent line going to the PCV Valve.

c. Remove the fuel tank.

13. B: On all other models, lift up and pull the tank to the rear and remove it.

14. Install by reversing these removal steps, noting the following.

15. Spray a small amount of WD 40 (or equivalent) onto the inside ends of the fuel and vent lines. This will make installation of the lines a little easier. Make sure they are completely installed onto the fittings on the secondary fuel tank. Tighten the clamp securely.

16. Refill the fuel tanks. Use the drained fuel if it was kept clean.
