It probably need a top end rebuild. I just downloaded a service manual for my 2000 king quad 300 and followed it step by step. I had the cylinder bored .40 over and ordered a piston kit/top end gasket kit and I did all of the assembly myself. After everything it cost me $200 and 1 week of time. Now it runs great. Good luck
