Beeman makes several good air rifles & guns. I know of 3 different "Sportsman SS" series that shoot .177 pellets And the RS1 Sportsman that comes with 2 barrels .177 & 22. But I know of no Beeman Air Gun called Sportsman. Just the Sportsman Rifle. If you are talking about the RS1, then yes I would have to say it is a good rifle for the price.

If you can find a Remington Sportsman 78 for less than $300 and it is in good condition buy as many as you can. $400 - $500 would be fair.
The Sportsman's Guide has pretty good deals on most of the standard calibers.
Sportsman 48, 11-48 and Mohawk 48 barrels are interchangeable. All are becoming increasingly difficult to find in good condition.
