the top speed for a kawasaki ninja zx6r is just over 186mph

~

Well, that's debatable, actually; if you look at videos on YouTube of people topping out their kawys on like the autobahn, the top speed seems to vary a bit according to what year the bike is...but according to Kawasaki, 186 is the top speed, and since the early '00s, all motorcycle manufacturers (of the supersport type) agreed to gear their bikes so that none of them go over 185-190 mph. Technically, if you swap gear rings & such, the bike is capable of going even faster; but stock street bikes, even the ones like the ZX6R series that are virtually race-ready out of the box so to speak, are ALL going to top-out no greater than 180-something in the 600cc class. The point being, 90% of the supersport bikes bought are used for riding on roads with speed limits & not racing, and there's just no reason to go any faster than that. Personally, I can think of a few good reasons...but they don't want their customers killing themselves just because the companies were having a battle over squeezing ever more speed out of their supersport bikes. Not that you can't kill yourself going 50mph, or lower =P

I have a 2000 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R & I wouldn't trade it for a newer model. The 2000 ZX6R was bike of the year for the 600cc class & it really is a perfect machine. It's actually got a higher top speed than some of the later models and was one of the last years before the top-speed cap was introduced. Personally, I have never had enough open road to just hammer the throttle, and I didn't want to lose my license (like how many points is 120mph over the speed limit?! ;) but I did get up to 177mph, once. There's no amusement park ride in the world that can thrill you when you're going that fast at the control of your own hand!
