First thing that you need to do is to remove the plug from the right side engine cover right next to the pull cord so you will see the TDC mark as you rotate the engine slowly with the pull cord. Bring the crankshaft to top dead center (TDC) compression stroke. You can tell this by removing the spark plug, put your finger over the spark plug hole and rotating the engine slowly with the pull start cord. When you feel the air start coming out of the spark plug hole continue turning the engine slowly and you will see an upside down T in the hole. Remove the camshaft cover on the right side of the engine and see if the camshaft sprocket alignment pin is pointing straight up. If so the cam timing is correct.

There should be a hole in the camshaft that aligns with a hole in the head. That locks the camshaft to #1TDC. Then manually turn the crankshaft until the #1 piston is at TDC. Then install the head and timing chain.

Inside the timing chain cover there is a crank position sprocket and a sensor that connects into the side of the timing chain cover. There is also a sensor in the distributor(this is the camshaft position sensor). The connector faces the firewall. To setup your timing you have to rotate the distributor to 0 deg or you will get a P1345 code. A timing light won't help. If you don't have the right equipment you need to take it to the dealer or keep adjusting the distributor until the code goes away. Jon
