According to page 36 in my original Suzuki GS850L owner's manual:
"NOTE: About 2,800 ml (3.0 US qt) of oil will be required when changing oil only." However, if you change the filter as well, the manual states on page 37:
"Add fresh oil through the filler hole approximately 3,600 ml (3.8 US qt) will be required."
