It used to belong to the Pinta Island Giant Tortoise but sadly, Lonesome George died of heart failure at about the age of 100 at June 24, 2012.

The most endangered animal is probably actually more than one animal, the Kouprey, Baji and the Zanzibar Leopard are possibly extinct animals, this could be it but they might have already died but however we don't know if they are extinct or not.

One example of the rarest animal is the Saola which is Critically endangered and very rare.

The Amur Leopard only has 35 of leopards left on the planet, but that does not make it THE rarest animal in the world because they are animals with possibly lower than 10 of the species in the world.
