An engine smaller than 12 HP is likely too small. In my experience a 14 HP or above is most suited. A few things affect the choice. The drive system for the deck would be one. If it is belt drive to the deck with manual engagement, then less power is needed. If it has an electric clutch to engage the deck, then care should be taken that the engine has a sufficient charging system to supply the necessary current to operate the clutch without draining the battery.

Where is the battery on a sears craftsman key start lawnmower?

Not being sure what type (rider or pusher) or model mower we're talking about here....Here's my best guess: On a rider or lawn tractor the battery is usually under the seat or under the hood in the engine compartment. On a push mower, it may be under the engine shroud or...under the mower deck (usually in the back) behind a plastic cover. Sure fire way to find out is to grab hold of the wire (cable) at the starter and trace it. I'll guarantee you that one of the starter wires will lead you to the battery. Happy hunting, and good luck! :-)

Where do you find the spark plug on a riding mower?

You best look at the engine first. The plug is located under the black rubber hood attached to a black rubber wire going into the bottom of the cover over the engine fan. <add> On my old riding mower (Craftsman), I found it on the very front of the engine exactly opposite of the rider. Two big screws, one on each side, allows the whole cowling to come off. Once the cowling is gone, it is very obvious.

Is kerosene harmful to my lawn mower engine?

Yes, kerosene can be harmful to your lawn mower engine. While it can serve as a cleaning agent, using it as a fuel can damage the engine components and lead to poor performance. Kerosene does not provide the necessary lubrication and combustion characteristics required for optimal engine function. It's best to stick with fuels specifically recommended by the manufacturer for your lawn mower.

What must be done in order for a vertical engine to be mounted horizontally?

A lawn mower engine mounted horizontally will not work because the oil will not flow into all the parts of the engine and the carb will not deliver fuel properly. If you really want to use a lawn mower for a moped your best bet is to look into a drivetrain that will convert power rather than flipping the engine, look into bevel gears or a simple friction drive system. Also if you take the blade off the engine you will need to replace the aluminum flywheel with a heavier one or the engine won't run for long.

What is the best mower for rough terrain- a push mower or riding mower?

Depends on the size of the lawn mostly. A push mower (or better yet a powered drive push mower) would have the best control in rough terrain, but if it is a large lawn a riding mower is better.

Is the lawn mower named Ferris a good mower What about the 32 hp Caterpilar engine is it a good engine?

Ferris are one of the best mowers around. They are on the pricer side but they are better than most on the market. Due to their price and qualiy they are normally used more comercially rather than home use. Excellent product and the 33.5 Cat diesel is their most powerfull commercial mower.
