I build VW engines for sandrails.......for NEW rebuilds, during break-in process, I use a non detergent 30W for the first 25 miles. I then recheck timing, valve adjustment, carb (s) and change oil using a 15W40 (not synthetic) 10W40 is also good. These are both great for 1600cc. However, if you operate in EXTREME heat (+90 degrees) with a lot of stop and go traffic you may choose to use a 20W50 (non synthetic).
SAE 20w50 synthetic.
1967 Type1's had a single port 1500 not a 1600.

A 2000 Volkswagen Passat typically requires about 4.5 to 5.5 liters of engine oil, depending on the specific engine type. It's always best to check the owner's manual for the exact oil capacity for your particular model. Additionally, using the recommended oil type and viscosity is important for optimal engine performance.

wne your changing the engine oil you need 4.5 litre
The recommended oil for a 2003 Volkswagen Passat with a 2.8L engine is 5w30. This is well suited for most driving conditions.
No, leave the engine off to check the oil. When you start the engine it sucks all the oil out of the crankcase, so none will appear on the dipstick.
