It is a hex bolt with an Allen head recess in the middle. It's located on the RH side of the bike, behind the shocks and in line with one of the frame supports. It's is right next to the frame. Look directly below the oil tank reservoir.

It is under the bike nearly in the center of the drain pan, forward of the shocks. It is an Allen head plug. It's the easiest one to find because it's in the drain pan.
Both the Engine and Transmission plugs are the same and they can be used from approximately 1980's to present day 2012 models, using the popular SS 1/2"X20X1/2" thread size. 1999 low riders and all Sportsters don't have a drain plug because they have a tube to drain the oil.

The 2003 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softtail transmission drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission. The drain plug is flush with the bottom of the transmission. You can remove it with a half inch ratchet.
On a 1993 Harley Davidson Low Rider custom, the transmission drain plug is underneath the transmission. The filler plug is on the side of the transmission case.
