I don't know how different an '81 is from an '82, but on the '82 there was a peice underneath the engine with air fins that can be unbolted. That peice holds the oil filter.

my manual for '82 seca 400 says "Periodic oil change: 2.2 liters / 2.3 us quart .... With oil filter replacement 2.5 liters / 2.6 us quart"
The 82 had the plug on the bottom of the oil tank. No plug on cases.
I have a marago 750 lol. I didn't know it but my maxim 82 750 had the shocks, calipers, rear tire and possibly tree of a virago. I discovered it when getting break pads.

Yes it does have a oil filter as you’re sitting at it it’s on the right side take the cover off and I need to gasket inside the right side case on the very bottom there is a screen you slide out and clean and put it back in so yes it does have one my dad has an 82 and we just had a part
