You could have a sticking solenoid on the starter, you could have a defective starter button, or your solenoid wires may be set up in a way that causes the current to ark between points when it's not supposed to.
A jackshaft is an assembly that connects the starter shaft/spline to the starting gear. When the starter button is pushed a pinion gear (part of the jackshaft assy.) engages the starter gear spinning the starter gear.
u may have a coil which when the starter is turning gives a higher voltage then drops when started this is called ballast ignition. when u turn the starter off the coil feed goes through a capacitor to drop the voltage if the capacitor is malfunctioning-no volts = no spark =no go
The first electric starter with starter button appeared on a car called the Arnold in 1896.
Starter button ? - you must have a very strange heater, they normally heat automatically when power is on, and I have fitted hundreds and NEVER seen a 'starter button'
Start by checking battery voltage and then use a test light to check for power at the starter when the button is pressed. If you have power at the starter with the button pressed it could be a bad starter. If no power at the starter then check into wiring and/or relays.
By turning off the hold button
That depends on the year of the bike. On '65 through '88 FLH models, there are three terminals on the solenoid. The top one goes to the battery, the [small] middle on goes to the starter button and the bottom one goes to the starter. On '89 and later FLH models there are only two terminals on the unitized starter/solenoid assembly. The larger one on top goes to the battery and the small one on the right side goes to the starter relay.

To install a push button starter solenoid, first disconnect the vehicle's battery to ensure safety. Locate the starter solenoid, usually mounted on or near the starter motor, and remove any necessary covers or panels. Connect the push button leads to the solenoid's positive terminal and the terminal leading to the starter, ensuring a secure connection. Finally, reassemble any removed components, reconnect the battery, and test the installation by pressing the button to start the engine.
