If the Bad Boy electric mower deck won't go up or down, it could be due to a few common issues. First, check the hydraulic fluid levels and ensure there are no leaks in the hydraulic system. Additionally, inspect the electrical connections and switches for any faults, as a malfunction here can prevent the deck from adjusting. Lastly, the lift mechanism itself may be jammed or damaged, requiring further inspection or repair.
To change the mower deck on a John Deere 214, first, ensure the mower is turned off and the key is removed. Raise the deck to its highest position and disconnect the drive belt by removing the belt from the pulley. Next, detach the deck by removing the pins or bolts that secure it to the tractor and carefully lower it down. Finally, install the new deck by reversing the process, ensuring all connections are secure before testing the mower.

The deck must be slipped beneath the machine from the left, the lift lever locked down and the rear hangers and front hanger plate attached. The belt will take take a 90 degree twist with the front part to the left side.
You first need to set the mower deck setting at high noon to read "blank". More or less between the 1" and 3.5" setting. Then pull deck release arm to allow for the deck to drop to the ground. Once locked into the down position, you need to release the U locks(that are spring loaded) located on the back half, and on both sides of the mower deck. This will allow for the arms that you have unlocked to be retracted up for clearance later. After that you must release the tension bar for the belt pulleys located on top of mower deck, left hand side, and remove the belt connected to the engine pulley located towards the front. After that, you must unlatch the front U-bar from the mower deck. After this is completed. Pull the mower Deck ARM back up, to the position normal for traveling. This will give you clearance to slide the mower deck out from the right side (chute side).
park mower on level ground or concrete. lower deck all the way down to ground. lay on your side on the right side of mower. several locking pins need to be pulled out of their slots. lay these to the side and do not misplace them. one cable and washer on top of deck need their locking pin removed. second locking pin needs to be removed from same cable guide way toward rear of deck. this makes 4 pins in all from right side. lay on left side of mower on the ground. three pins on this side need to be remove in same manner. raise height lever all the way back up and this will make it possible to clear mower when you slide deck out from under mower to work on deck . after work is complete, slide deck back under mower as close to location it was in when you started. connect all parts and reinsert pins in reverse order of how you took apart.
Normally you will start to hear a loud grumbling sound from underneath the mower when the blades are engaged. With the mower shut off, release the tension from the belt for the blades. Raise the deck so you can grab the blades from the bottom. You should not be able to rock the blades from side to side or up and down. If you can then you probably have a bad spindle. You can do this for wach of the spindles to check them all.
Maybe you should tighten the drive belt or it could be the PTO clutch is slipping.

To increase the cutting height on a Troy-Bilt mower, locate the height adjustment lever, which is typically found near the wheels or on the mower deck. Depending on the model, you may need to lift the lever to raise the deck or push it down to lower it. Adjust the lever to your desired cutting height, ensuring both sides of the mower are set equally for an even cut. Always refer to your specific model's manual for detailed instructions.
The belt diagram for a Garden Way No. 14003 mower deck typically shows the routing of the drive belt around the pulleys and spindles. It usually involves a configuration where the belt loops around the engine pulley, then travels down to the deck's spindle pulleys. To ensure proper operation, the belt must be positioned correctly to avoid slippage or damage. For the exact diagram, it's best to refer to the mower's user manual or consult the manufacturer's resources.
