The Arkenu Mountains, deep in the Libyan desert are flat topped mountains that rise to about 5,000 ft.
There are deep vast underground reservoirs in Libya that are being exploited in coastal areas.
Trees usually cannot survive in the cold tundra as the ground is frozen solid a few inches below the surface and stays frozen even in summer. Roots cannot penetrate this frozen soil. In the desert, however, trees do not have that problem and area able to send their roots deep into the soil to find water.
i don't know, but i can tell you this by looking at the list at the international flora record organization's list of the sahara (note i will not say sahara desert because sahara means desert) is well over 5,000.
yes, the Sahara desert was an ocean. how do we know this? scientists have discovered high levels of silica, halite and mercury in the sand, as well, unlike most deserts, the Sahara has large pools of water deep beneath the surface.this prooves that there must have been water in this desert at some point in the past. radioactive dating says around 100-150 million years ago.
This is North of the Siwa Oasis in Northern Egypt - not from the border with Libya.
IROKO tree. These can be found in NIgeria .. and some west African rain forest zones.
Sahara desert doesn't have much of the agriculture. This happens because the climatic conditions in Sahara doesn't support the growth for plants.Eventhough plants like cactus and date palm tree grow here. These plants have long roots to absorb water from the deep soil and they have spine like leaves or sometimes no leaves at all for preventing transpiration(loosing water)through leaves.

The Sahara desert is renowned for its majestic sand dunes. The whole desert is made of a deep yellow-brown sand. Each grain is fine and purely sand. There is the occasional water hole or oasis, some habitation, reptiles such as snakes and lizards. There are many shrivelled and malnourished trees and vegetation, while camels travel up and down the desert. The correct term is the Sahara; which is Arabic for desert. The desert is found in Africa north of the equator, and stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Red Sea in the east. It is the world's largest hot desert.
Much of the desert is just sand. However, not all of it is, especially the fringes of it. The Sahara Desert Plant Life: The type of plants that you find in the Sahara Desert are cactus, African Welwitchsia, cypress, and oleander.

Plants in the Sahara Desert face challenges in obtaining water due to the extreme heat, limited rainfall, and high evaporation rates. The arid conditions make it difficult for plants to access sufficient water for survival, leading to adaptations such as deep root systems and water-storing tissues to cope with the harsh environment.
You asked a very good question. There is an impression that the deserts contain nothing but sand. It isn't true. Deep below the surface of the desert, there are many large natural gas and oil deposits in the Sahara desert. It is a very active area of exploration in the countries of Libya and Algeria. The Sahara was not always a desert. These necessary organic material was deposited over 100 million years ago, when the area was full of vegetation, and marine life. Natural gas deposits were not actively exploited due to the inaccessibility of the area and lack of facilities. Roads have been built and drilling companies have set up facilities in the desert. Remote areas may depend on generators for electricity. Also, there was no local market. The countries of Algeria and Libya could not consume all the gas that was expected to be produced. Gas is not easy to transport long distances like oil. However, today there are gas pipelines that go under the Mediterranean sea, so the gas produced from the Sahara desert can be used in the European countries. I have included several links so you can learn more about the Sahara desert. See links.
Most of the water in a desert is deep underground in aquifers.
