Just a few of them are:

  • Amikwa
  • Arapaho
  • Attikamek
  • Beothuk
  • Blackfoot, Piegan, Blood
  • Cheyenne and Suhtaio
  • Chitimacha
  • Fox
  • Gros Ventres or Atsinas
  • Illini
  • Kickapoo
  • Cree
  • Leni Lenape or Delaware
  • Mahican
  • Maliseet
  • Meniminee
  • Miami, Wea and Piankashaw
  • Mi'kmaq
  • Montagnais
  • Narragansett
  • Nanticoke
  • Nipissing
  • Ojibwa/Ojibwe/Chippewa
  • Ottawa/Odawa
  • Passamaquoddy
  • Penobscot
  • Powhatan
  • Potawatomi
  • Sauk or Sac
  • Shawnee
  • Tamaroa
  • Wampanoag and Massachusett and Nantucket and others
  • Wappinger

The last two on this list are California tribes; many others lived around the Great Lakes and the Powhatan lived along the Virginia coast.

The word Algonquian covers a huge number of tribes speaking distantly-related languages, some of whom were part of the Plains culture, some belonging to the North Woodlands and Great Lakes culture and some to the South-East Woodlands.

The culture of the Piegan Blackfoot (an Algonquian tribe) was entirely different to the culture of the Pamunkey (another Algonquian tribe that was part of the Powhatan group).

"Algonquian" simply tells you about their language family, not their location or culture.
