There have been innumerable wars and conflicts fought in the continent of Africa over the past several thousand years, and they all had a variety of causes and outcomes, although in general, the long term outcome has been a continent of terrible social problems which remain largely unresolved even today, in 2012. War has not been kind to Africa. As a general type of cause, war is used by ruthless nations or individuals to get what they want in spite of any amount of popular opposition. Dictators have plundered African countries for their personal profit, over and over, as far back as the time of the Pharaohs of Egypt.

In the time of the Romans there really were no African nations, just territories and kingdoms. Rome fought battles throughout North Africa, from Egypt to present day Morocco. In fact, "Africa" was the name of a Roman province, located, (logically) in present day North Africa.

No, Africa was not the first continent to be inhabited by humans. The earliest evidence of human presence is found in Africa, but humans also migrated to other continents, such as Asia and Europe, over time.

Africa is a continent, not a country; this said, Africa does not have a leader: like it is done in Europe, Asia or elsewhere, every country (there are many of them) elects it's president after a certain period of time.
