If something goes wrong, even if the kid wasn't at fault, the parent will have to convince a jury that it was a good idea to leave a kid in charge. #4: Since this appears to not be a hypothetical question...This situation needs to be reported to local children's services in order for them to investigate the circumstances and protect the kids. Any situation that forces a 12-y.o. to cook without adult supervision is, by itself, a danger.
