yes.A foreign driver's license may be used in South Africa as long as it is in English. If the original is not in English, a translation must be obtained. It is, however, recommended that a "green card license" be obtained from Cape Town's Traffic Department. Foreign licenses cannot be replaced if they are lost or stolen in South Africa and some foreign licenses may not be covered by South African car insurers. For further information contact the Cape Town Traffic Department on: +27 21 419-2200.International Driving Permit:An IDP is recommended, because if you have an accident some insurance companies will insist on seeing one. Additionally, those licences that do not incorporate a photograph need to be accompanied by photographic proof of identity. An IDP may also be required for car hire.To apply for an IDP go to http://www.theaa.com/getaway/idp/motidp002.html
yes you can. you just have to deposit a transaction fee into the Zimbabwean Embassies bank account receive proof of the transaction and send that along with a copy of your drivers licence (front and back), a copy of your Zim ID and details of your current postal, residential and email addresses as well as your phone number. They will write a letter stating if this is a valid licence in Zimbabwe which will take roughly seven working days and then they will post it to you. Once you have received this letter take it to your nearest South African Traffic Department and they will assist you in changing it. This is not hard. Take your SA ID, letter from the embassy, proof you lived in Zim eg reference letter from a company you worked for that side or certificate of qualifications, etc. and SA ID size photos. You will receive a form to fill out and that is it.
