Inheritance is normally defined by the last will of the deceased. Legitimacy is rarely a factor, except in for some inheritable Titles of Nobility.
Your spouse may adopt the child but the court will have to serve notice of that proceeding to the biological father.
Being born out of wedlock does not bar a child from inheriting from his deceased father. However, if the father left the child out of the will then that child might not be able to inherit anything without contesting the will in court.

Their treatment in Shakespeare's day was better than it would be in later centuries, but not perhaps as good as it is now. Shakespeare gives a number of examples of bastards in his plays including Falconbridge in King John and Edmund in King Lear. Edmund clearly resents the lower status his bastardy gives him, but he is acknowledged and supported by his father. Their disadvantage was chiefly in their inability to inherit from their natural father, even if they were acknowledged.
It depends on what the term "illegitimate" means. The term "illegitimate" is much more expansive than the Hebrew term "Mamzer" which refers to a child born out of an incestuous relationship or a child born to a married woman and a man not her husband. The father has no obligation to a Mamzer. The father does have an obligation to any other child that he fathers (regardless if it falls within the Western definitions of legitimate or illegitimate).
The topic of an illegitimate son has circulated since 1892 but there is little if not evidence one way or another.
