In most states you are an emancipated adult once you are eighteen years of age. But in reality your parents can tell you what to do and what you can't do as long as you are dependent on them for your support. If you are eighteen and still living at home you need to reach a place where you make some decisions and your parents can make some about the house rules. It is not reasonable to believe you can defy their wishes as long as you live rent free in their house, eat their food and depend on them for all your needs. Once you have a good job, can afford your own apartment and support yourself you can live your life as you choose.

∙ 17y agoYes, your parents can tell you what to do. The age of legal majority in most states is 18, in Alabama and Nebraska it is 19, in Mississippi and Pennsylvania it is 21.
