You can give your child any last name you want. I doubt he's the only one with that name. It sounds to me though you are trying to create a bond to someone who might not always be there and who will have no legal right to your child. You are not married and relationships do often end. Then you will want to change her name again. It will also most likely do nothing good for the relationship with the biological father who you now will parent with for the next 20 years. Even though he's maybe not there now he can change his mind down the road and get visitation rights. If I were you I would give the child your name until you get married. In that case no one will get hurt.
Yes, and stop naming him after your boyfriends. Your going to give him a complex.
Yes, a father can change his child's last name. However, this depends on the custody arrangement, and who has primary custody.
Whatever last name the mother chooses. Foe example, my parents are not married and my mom chose to give me my father's last name, (since SHE was the one who just gave birth the mom gets the ultimate decision). However, I have a cousin that gave her child her last name instead. If the father wants to give the child his last name, he can petition it to the court, and the judge will decide. I know this is a fact in Missouri!
Not if no order was in place.
NO. In most states the father of the child must be present at the time of birth to sign the birth certificate as the father of the child. It could, in reality, be any man who would be willing to take legal responsibility for the unborn child. A child will only automatically get the father's name if the two parents are married. Even if the father pays child support, the mother is not obigated to change the child's last name to that of the father.
With the biological father's consent, yes.
That depends on the relationship you have with the father. You can always give the baby your last name. If you intend on asking the father for financial help and to be active in the child's life, then consider giving the child the fathers last name. you can give the baby whatever name you want
It is ancient common law that a child born to a married couple gets the father's last name because that father would care for and support the child until maturity in a family household. It is also ancient common law that an unmarried mother gets to give the child her own name.

This is completely up to the parents, although ultimately the mother will be the one asked to give the child's name. She can choose to give the child either last name.
In Illinois in 1962, the child's mother could name anyone she wished (or no one), as the father, and give the child any first/last name she wished.
Yes, but if he's not the father, it paternity fraud.
In the US, the parent[s] can give the child any name they choose. However, doing so does not establish paternity.
yes, however if the father is paying child support, he has the right to add his.

The mother becomes the only legal parent of the child. However, if the father requests it, a DNA test may conducted, and his name added on the birth certificate.
