Distance is the cultural difference between two individuals, where the relationship assumes ownership of one's own culture to compare to the other's. Displacement is in relation to the individual's identity within the culture, where she does not feel she owns neither the prevailing culture nor the alternative's.

Displacement is the vector constructed by drawing a line between your starting
point and your ending point, regardless of what route you followed to get there.

starting line, your distance was 2 miles, your displacement is zero.
