Battleships will most likely be resigned to museums and history due to the fact that in the past they were used to bombard coasts and attack other ships. Even with improved targeting systems and better missile defense, battleships are still less efficient and more expensive at their jobs than cruise missiles and other methods. This fact is compounded by the fact that even with advanced defense systems, they are still a huge target. Take the attack on the USS Cole for instance: They are a target which is stationary. A smaller, faster-moving ship could easily cause enough damage to put the larger one out of service. I believe that the appearance and subsequent perfection of the missile has effectively put the battleship out of a job. Well, I actually just learned about this the other day... Roads were significant to the Roman Empire/Republic because it improved transportation and trade. It also improved military defenses. Yeah, sorry this is a short answer, but this question was fairly easy. ~NerdyGirl
After the invention of gunpowder, Constantinople enhanced its defenses by reinforcing its formidable walls, particularly the Theodosian Walls, which were upgraded to withstand cannon fire. The city also strategically positioned large cannons along the walls to defend against attackers. Additionally, they implemented improved military tactics and fortified their naval defenses to protect against potential sieges by sea. These measures were essential in maintaining the city's security during the era of gunpowder warfare.
Of the 8 battleships, only 2 were lost permanently. Another 2 were "sunk" in shallow water, but later re-floated & repaired. Here is a brief summary of US ship losses & damage to the 8 battleships at Pearl Harbor: Battleship-USS Arizona, heavily damaged by bombs & sunk; 1,103 killed Battleship-USS Oklahoma, heavily damaged & sunk; 415 killed Battleship-USS West Virginia, heavily damaged by torpedoes & sunk; 106 killed Battleship-USS California, slowly sunk in very shallow water (easily raised); 98 killed Battleship-USS Nevada, damaged by bombs & torpedoes, beached (not sunk); 60 killed Battleship-USS Pennsylvania, slight damage; 29 killed Battleship-USS Tennessee, minor damage; 5 killed Battleship-USS Maryland, some damage; 4 killed Of the four sunk and one beached: Only the USS Arizona & USS Oklahoma were total losses. The USS West Virginia, USS California, and USS Nevada were all raised/refloated and then repaired & improved on the US west coast in time to fight in the Pacific war. The USS West Virginia required the most time & effort to repair & rebuild. The three battleships not sunk: USS Pennsylvania, USS Tennessee, and USS Maryland were all repaired and improved on the US west coast and returned to service in less than four months.
Daytime bombing raids offered improved visibility for pilots and allowed for more accurate targeting, but they also exposed aircraft to higher risks from enemy defenses and anti-aircraft fire. Nighttime raids provided the advantage of stealth, reducing the likelihood of interception, but often resulted in decreased accuracy due to limited visibility and reliance on navigational aids. Ultimately, the choice between day and night raids involved balancing the trade-offs between accuracy and safety.

The USS West Virginia required the most time & effort to repair & rebuild. It was refloated on 17 May 1942 and sent to Puget Sound for repairs and returned to service in 1944. The three battleships not sunk: USS Pennsylvania, USS Tennessee, and USS Maryland were all repaired and improved on the US west coast and returned to service in less than four months.
