Because of the different voice actors who played Barney. True, but when Dean Wendt first started in 2002, he used a slightly different voice. I think he was trying to sound more like the original voice actor, and his voice eventually evolved to his own that we know today.

I think the show asked him to change his voice. Because now he's supposed to be thinner and sexier, so he needs a sexier voice to go with it. But, now his character has no personality and it's ridiculous. PS - if you watch the first season, Abby has a different voice. THAT is her normal voice. They asked her to make it a pitch or 2 higher so she'd sound "cuter." Sad...
