It all depends, sounds paradoxical, but is heavy going to EXTEND comedy that is make it last. Comedy is essentially shallow, drama, inherently deep. One can combine the genres if done very carefully- and not to offend people with tasteless sight gags. The period Science Fiction film ( Journey to the Center of the Earth) had some flaws- not fatal but off-base- of A/ having singer Pat Boone in an important role- as the Scientist"s aide, and B. a surplus of sight gags. It was a drama, not a comedy.
