During an interview with Mike in March of 2007, he indicated that those he helps pay about 10-20% of what it costs him to make the repairs. He wished he could do it for free, but the contractors he uses need to get paid, though he squeezes everything he can out of them. He mentioned that if there was ever time he could afford to do it for free (so that everyone was taken care of), that he would. It's now 2 years later, so maybe he does now.
