Unlike modern fantasy authors, Tolkien did not describe this sort of thing. The elves "prized beautiful hair," but I believe that only refers to one kind. I think the reigning belief in the Tolkien fan community seems to be that the males, anyway, did not have hair on their chests.

No, Ian McKellen did not grow his own hair for the role of Gandalf the White in "The Lord of the Rings" films. Instead, the production team used wigs and hairpieces to achieve the character's iconic look. McKellen's transformation into Gandalf included extensive makeup and costume design, ensuring a distinctive appearance that matched the character's portrayal in J.R.R. Tolkien's work.
Gandalf Note: There are a number of elves who could fit that description (maybe with blonde hair), including Legolas, but Gandalf did not have a bow and arrow.

They are "high elves" - tall and regal. The men are lordly and the ladies are extremely feminine. The have various shades of blonde, brown or red hair. They all have fair skin and are immortal, dying only if killed in battle or of a broken heart. Sickness and drunkenness does not affect them the same way it affects us. That is they never get sick and are very hard to get un-sober.
