The answer yes, but the answer to whether it's worth it is probably no.

Blu-Ray burners are being sold at reasonable prices now. As of 12/20/08 you can pick one up for $218. ie. LG GGW-H20LK BLU RAY 6X WRITER

There are PS3 modchips being sold now too, they can allow the addition of SATA drives, flash the bios, some other features. I didn't see anything that specifically allowed for burned blu-ray disks to be played. The Infectus PS3 modchip might be a good place to start a search.

Modchips and burners aside, I think that the real problem is the sheer size of the PS3 games. PS2 and XBOX games are everywhere on file sharing sites because they are usually about 4GB, and at max 8GB large.

Will people be as willing to share and download blu ray games that are 25 to 50GB large? Who knows? I remember when no one shared anything larger thatn a gig, but it's commonplace now.

If game developers completely filled game disks with HD video content and cutscenes, it would be one of the best anti-piracy measures ever taken. It would make file sharing frustratingly slow. However this won't stop piracy. I doubt anything will.
