He starts of by saying "I'm from a different era, things were a lot less complicated, and if i met you back then, i would have courted you... i may have stolen a kiss or two, but only after asking your father's permission, i would have got down on one knee and i would present you with a ring" he then actually gets down on one knee and presents her with a ring, the actual proposal is "Isabella Swan i promise to love you for every moment forever. Would you do me the extraordinary honour of marrying me?".
