Does Cobb end up in reality or a dream at the end of Inception?

You will hear a different thing from everyone you ask. Anyone could give you proof to say that he was awake at the end and his todem was about to fall, or vice-versa, but the whole point of that scene, is to leave you wondering. Its called a cliffhanger. You'll never know for sure which way it was, all you can do is convince yourself temporarily until someone comes along and convinces you otherwise. Some might think that at the end, while they are all pictured on the plane, they are in reality, and when he went home he was really seeing his kids. Others may disagree and say that the entire movie was a dream and there may be a second movie. Ive even had a friend tell me that during the movie, someone was preforming Inception on him! But my point is, I HAVE NO CLUE!!

∙ 13y agoYeah, if you notice when he gets back home, his kids haven't aged since he last saw them, and they're wearing the same clothes.

∙ 8y agoThe plot made it seem he was awake, but his totem was showing as a little off. They left it so we don't really know. It is up to the audience to decide.

What happens at the end of Inception?
At the end of Christopher Nolan's Inception we see Dominic Cobb finally reaches his children from which he has parted with for a long time after he was convicted a criminal. It was the longing to see his children that drove him to take on the job of Inception. He spins his Totem (the items each person in the crew that takes on Inception carries to keep track of reality, which is Cobb's case is a spinning top that used to be his wife's) on the table, and then rushes to see his children. We do not get to see whether Cobb is in fact in reality because the film ends before the spinning top comes to a halt. There is dispute whether he is in reality or not, most people think he is, as the spinning top topples slightly suggesting that it would have stopped eventually.

Nobody knows, that's not the most important thing. Nolan said the whole point of that ending was to demonstrate that Cobb did not care about dream or reality. He just wanted to see his kids again. It's supposed to be really emotional.

If you pay close attention to Cobb when he is in reality and in a dream, you will notice he switches wearing a wedding ring. In reality he doesn't have a ring, but in a dream moll is still alive therefor genus still married so he is wearing a ring. If u look in the scene when grid entering customs his left hand doesn't not wear a ring. At the last scene you can't tell if he is still wearing it but u can only assume. What do u think?
In the movie Inception when the top stops spinning does that mean he is in reality?
Yes, the top represents the only proof of the "real world" within the movie. If the top fails to stop spinning it proves that the current world is the "dream world" and in fact not reality. This is why at the end of the movie it cuts to credits before we discover whether or not the top stops spinning. If it stops it is the real world, if it doesn't then he is just in another dream. Whether the end scene takes place in the real world or not is another question all together. After all, we didn't see Saito actually shoot himself at the end of the movie in that room that resumed after the very first scene in the movie. Crazy isn't it? :P

The ending was meant to be ambiguous so that the viewer doesn't know if the top fell over (he was back in Saito's dream, his dream, orthe real world) or if it just kept on spinning (he was still in a dream, and would likely be forever). So far this question has two rival answers. 1) The spinning top keeps spinning, so he is still in a dream and we don't know what happens to the rest of the team as he didn't wake up on the plane but was asleep. This makes some sense because the children and house are identical to his dreams - they haven't grown up yet we have been led to believe that time has passed. Or, 2) some people are saying that the spinning top actually slows and starts to wobble at the very end, showing that he is now in 'his dream, Saito's dream, or reality (as the top was his wife's totem and would only fall in if it was in someone who had touched it's dream or reality).

However, I believe the ring is a symbol of his guilt and undying love to his wife, Mal. He went into a further stage of limbo because he shot himself under sedation. Cobb had said the flight would take about a week in the first leave, and all of them, he claimed, would be killed by fischer's projections by then. Also, who preforms the kick in reality? The top does wobble at the end, this is because the totem is to make sure you're not in someone else's dream, and Cobb also said that if he let some one else touch it, it would "defeat the purpose". Saito touches it... This means it is either Saito or Cobb's dream.

i personally think that is was not a dream, because you could hear the dradle start to wobble and they just couldn't end his life as a dream! But there are ways it could have been a dream, but the movie is just meant to not be figured out!
