In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Sirius reappears when Harry uses the resurrection stone however, he had not be returned from the dead and disappeared when Harry dropped the stone.

Before he does this, he realizes that the puzzle of the Golden Snitch left to him by Albus Dumbledore ("I open at the close,") is that he isn't meant to open it until just before the moment of his death. In so doing, the Ressurrection Stone is made available to him (having been concealed in the Snitch) and he uses it to summon up his mother, father, Sirius, and Lupin to accompany him into the Forbidden Forest.
