How does Gertrude not know how king Hamlet died?

She's not a doctor. Claudius claimed that Hamlet Sr. died of a snakebite, and she had no reason to believe otherwise. The key line is her response to Hamlet's "Almost as bad, dear mother, as to kill a king and marry with his brother." Hamlet is accusing her of the murder, but her response "To kill a king?" shows that to Gertrude the real shocker in Hamlet's statement is that his father was murdered at all. She had no idea.

Why do you suppose that king Claudius is so irritated by Hamlets persistent grief and melancholy?

He'd like everyone to forget all about King Hamlet. That way, nobody will wonder whether he died of a snakebite as was reported or not. The less people think about King Hamlet, the safer Claudius is. But Hamlet keeps on bringing it up.

How did Hamlet feel about Claudius being king?

Claudius (the king) respects Hamlet as a son in the beginning. He even tells Hamlet that he hopes that he sees him as a father figure. Claudius views Hamlet as a son and hopes to eventually have Hamlet view him as a father.

What are the plots of Macbeth and Hamlet?

In Macbeth, the king's cousin gets talked into killing the king by his wife, who is all excited about some prophecies made by some witches that Macbeth would be king at some future time. The king's son gets blamed for the murder and runs away. However, being king and queen does not make either of the Macbeths happy and in fact turns Macbeth into a paranoid mass-murderer whom everyone abandons as the kingdom falls into ruin. The son of the king then leaves his life of hakuna matata and returns to claim the throne. In Hamlet, Hamlet, the son of the late king of the same name is told by the ghost of his father that his uncle and stepfather Claudius obtained the throne by murder. Hamlet, who is forced to remain in his uncle's court while trying to plot his revenge, tests the ghost's statement by staging a play very similar to the murder, which confirms the king's guilt but also tips the king off to what Hamlet knows. Hamlet kills the king's counsellor, believing him to be the king, which estranges Hamlet from his girlfriend Ophelia, daughter of the counsellor. The king tries to get rid of Hamlet by sending him to England to be killed, but Hamlet never gets to England and returns. His girlfriend has meanwhile gone insane and died. Hamlet gets into a fight with Ophelia's brother, who has plotted with the king to kill Hamlet, but everything goes horribly wrong and Ophelia's brother dies, Hamlet's mother is accidentally poisoned, Hamlet is fatally wounded and kills the king before he dies.

Why doesRosencrantz and Guildenstern agree to carry out the king's plans?

They have a great deal of respect for the king, who is the king after all. That seems to count for a lot with them. Very few people seem to share Hamlet's dislike for his stepfather, R & G included.

What is the storyline to Hamlet?

Hamlet is the son of King Hamlet and Queen Gertrude of Denmark, but his father has recently died and his uncle Claudius has become king and married Queen Gertrude. Hamlet is taken to a battlement where the ghost of his father appears and tells him that he was murdered by Claudius and commands Hamlet to revenge him by killing Claudius. Hamlet decides to act crazy while looking for a chance to get at the king. His crazy behaviour induces the king to set spies on him, first his school pals Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and later his girlfriend Ophelia. Hamlet, still unsure of the ghost's veracity, gets some travelling players to put on a play which mimics the murder. Claudius's reactions confirm he is the murderer all right. Hamlet then has a chance to kill him, but holds his hand because he is praying. He then visits his mother in her room and kills the king's advisor who is also his girlfriend's father and who was spying on him for the king. The king then sends him to England to get him out of the way with instructions to the English to kill him. The death of her father drives Ophelia crazy and she drowns. Her brother arrives, desperate for revenge. Hamlet's ship gets attacked by pirates and he ends up back in England. Ophelia's brother Laertes and the king plot to kill Hamlet by staging a fencing match in which Laertes will have a poisoned sharp sword, and Claudius will give Hamlet a poisoned drink. But it all backfires. Hamlet gets hold of the poisoned sword after Laertes cuts him with it and kills Laertes. Gertrude drinks the poisoned drink and dies. Hamlet stabs Claudius and gives him the remains of the poisoned drink and then dies himself in the arms of his best friend Horatio.

What did Hamlet think killed his father before he found out that Claudius did?

The public story was that an adder (snake) stung (bit) King Hamlet while he was sleeping, but when Hamlet's Ghost tells Prince Hamlet it was Claudius, the Prince responds, "Oh, my prophetic soul," meaning he really thought so all the time.
