No you can't directly record PS3 game. You need TV card on your computer the use screen recording software to do so. I recommend Fraps for everyone who wants to record their videogameplay, and Democreator for desktop tutorial and presentation.
At the beginning, there is an option to change the length and width of the gaming screen in which you can change around to fit your television screen. Check the in-game settings.
It is your TV that is saying no signal and not the PS3. When it happens to me it is when the TV is not switched to the correct source. For me this is when the HDTV is still at the PS3 source of HDMI or HDMI-3 plug and not the cable HDMI plug or HDMI-1. It can also happen when you purchase a cheap HDMI cable that stops working or when something is just disconnected from either end of the PS3 A/V or HDMI cable
They come with the PS3 and are also available for purchase as SONY PS3 A/V cables just as you can Purchase Sony PS3 Component Cables and other Sony PS3 accessories. A link to a PlayStation network accessories site has been added under related links

The games will play in lower screen resolution than if the PS3 was connected to a HDTV with a HDMI cable
Connect your ps3 to the tv for standard definition. Turn the ps3 on to standby. Then press and hold the standby button on the playstation not the controller until you see the screen change.
Playing PS3 on 2 screens is not possible since the PS3 only has one HDMI output. It is possible to clone the screen to another TV if your TV allows that. Playing a PS3 on 2 screens separated requires an extra PS3 and a console link.
No it does not have to be a special TV or a HDTV to connect and play the PS3. You do need a TV that has A/V input capability. That means 2 Audio RCA type Plug inputs and one Video RCA Type plug input are needed to connect the PS3 to the TV with the A/V cable that comes with the PS3.
PS3 games will look much better in HD on a flat screen TV than they will on an older (CRT) TV.
