Comic Strip Dondi was a daily comic stripabout a large-eyed, (originally Italian) war orphan of the same name. It was created by Gus Edson and Irwin Hasen, and ran from September 25, 1955 until 8 June 1986. Irwin Hasen received the National Cartoonist Society Award for Story Comic Strip for 1961 and 1962 for his work on the strip. During these years, the strip was carried in hundreds of newspapers. By the time the strip ended, it was being carried in only 35 papers. Dondi's original backstory describes him as a five year old, World War II war orphan of Italian descent.[3]a soldier who was to be his future adoptive father (and who knew no Italian) found the child wandering in a war-torn village repeating the word "Donde" ("where") as he was looking for his slain parents. (I recall reading it in a comic book, but I could be wrong.) Dondi was eventually made into a family-oriented film produced and directed by Albert Zugsmith, released on 26 March 1961. It featured David Kory as Dondi, with costars David Janssen and Patti Page. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dondi

Did soldiers carry pictures of friends in the Vietnam war?

Girlfriends & wives. Soldiers have carried and still do carry pictures of anyone who they hold dear. Soldiers away from home, especially in combat situations need reminders of those they leave behind. Some soldiers anyway. Some soldiers do not carry anything that reminds them of home, especially those serving in special ops units.

I can't imagine why you would ask such a question. All soldiers help each other that are wounded and don't leave them behind.

Why were soldiers hiding behind their dead horses in World War 2?

In WWII soldiers would hide behind their dead horses to protect themselves from the enemy. They would have a less chance of getting hit and so they had more chance of survival. Also the enemy wouldn't see them on the ground so it was easier for the soldiers to kill their enemy.
