edit: She certainly dies in terms of "Hollywood short-hand," but there is no on-screen evidence that she was shot in the head. The angle of the held gun and the way in which Severine fell (which is somewhat implausible in that her knees stay locked) suggest a torso shot. The gun used is an antique dueling pistol, probably equivalent to or less lethal than modern handguns, suggesting that with medical attention she may well have survived. But she goes unmentioned for the rest of the film. Someone who has the original script or direct knowledge of the writer's intent could improve this answer further.
