Was a burial tomb for an Indian King/Queen
The taj is a symbol of love from the grandson of akbar, Shah Jahan, to his dead wife (mumtaz mahal) who died after giving birth to her fourteenth son. Because he loved her so much he built it for her as a tomb. What is written above is a British-Muslim propaganda. Shah Jehan had no queen named Taj Mahal; it is impossible. Taj means crown; Mahal means building. Is it possible for any woman to have a strange name Crown Building. Mahal is Sanskrit. The court language during Shah Jehan was Persian, where a building is called Manzil, not Mahal. Shah Jehan's favourite queen's name was Arjumand Zamani not Taj Mahal. Shah Jehan got this building from Jagat Singh, the grand son of Man Singh, commander in chief of Akbar, the grandfather of Shah Jehan. Man Singh got it from earlier days. Taj Mahal was a part of a Hindu palace. It has four floors; which the British blocked with stonewalls. The building is facing East, just like any Hindu building, not west, which any Muslim building should face. It has motives of flowers and plants, prohibited in Muslim architecture. It has octagonal shape, according to Hindu Vastu Shastra. It was never built by Shah Jehan, who modified it to put verses of Koran, not any love poems.
Taj Mahal is a pre-Islamic fort. The construction and architecture reveals that. What is now Taj Mahal was a part of a huge building. Mongols when they overrun India were uncivilized nomadic barbarians never seen any buildings but used to live in tents ( they still do, go to Uzbeckistan and see). They could never built Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal was a temple of Shiva. Mongol emperor Shahjehan took it back from Jagat Singh and reconstructed as a Mosque, but with a wrong direction (facing East rather than West). Shah Jehan had no wife named Mumtaj Mahal or Taj Mahal. The name of the quuen who was buried next to him was named Arjumand Zamani.
The pools around the Taj Mahal are basically reflection pools. If you see a picture of the Taj Mahal you can see the reflection of the building in the pools. Like most reflection pools the water is shallow and the water is not effected by fountain jets so that the reflection is kept still from any waves.

it isn't associated with any religion....
it wasn't built for any emperor. infact emperor shsh jahan built it for her queen mumtaz mahal.
After erection of Taj Mahal, it is believed that, ShahJahan wanted to build another Taj Mahal, across the other side of river Yamuna, with black marble. According to his proposal, a bridge was to be constructed and joining two, the white Taj Mahal Mumtaz's Tomb and black Taj mahal Shahjahan's Tomb. Shah Jahan began to build his own tomb on the other side of the river but the war with his sons interrupted his plan and Aurangzeb who reigns at present is not disposed to complete it.
